Mpika, Zambia – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says it remains committed to providing the necessary technical support to mainstream corruption prevention in institutions across the country.
Speaking during the official opening of the Integrity Committee Induction Training held at Mango Grove this morning, ACC Acting Regional Manager for Muchinga Province, Mr. Blessed Chewe, said Government recognizes that mainstreaming corruption prevention is one of the most effective ways of dealing with the scourge of corruption.
“Corruption thrives where systems are weak. By embedding integrity and transparency in our institutions, we can prevent corruption before it occurs,” Mr. Chewe said.
The training workshop has attracted participants from Kanchibiya Town Council, Kapasa Makasa University, Zambia College of Agriculture and Mpika Town Council. It is designed to equip Integrity Committee members with the requisite skills to mainstream corruption prevention in their respective institutions.
Mr. Chewe added that the training will cover 17 modules aimed at building capacity in the development of best practice policies, risk assessment, and ethical leadership.
In his welcoming remarks, Mpika Town Council Secretary, Mr Samuel Musenga, thanked the ACC for choosing Mpika to host the training and pledged the Council’s full support in implementing integrity measures.
Mr Musenga said the establishment and strengthening of integrity committees is an important step towards promoting transparency, accountability, ethical conduct and Good Governance in institutions.
Mr Musenga said public institutions have a duty to uphold the highest standards of integrity in delivery of services to citizens of Zambia.
The Council Secretary said the training comes at better time, as it will equip committee members with the knowledge and skills required to effectively prevent corruption and promote ethical behavior within respective institutions.
The Integrity Committees are expected to spearhead the development and implementation of corruption prevention policies within their institutions following the training.
